Fighting for a good life

The fact that people had to, and still have to, fight for basic human rights is absurd. People like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. were one in a million and we should be thankful that they came along to fight against injustice and fight for equality. As a society we are extremely intolerant of people who we deem "different" and that is really a prominent flaw within society today. We haven't learned our lesson from the past, the buss boycotts or the marches for equality, and we continue to discriminate; whether it be against gays, transgenders, or refugees attempting o escape certain death. Dr. King Jr. wrote in his letter to Birmingham,"I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states." and I believe if it were today he would say the same thing about the hate and intolerance running rampant through our country.

These people fought for equality yet we have not truly done justice to them by providing all people who are in the States this equality. When we attempt to provide it there are still many who object against these attempts. As a society we need to ban together and learn from our predecessors that hate will not help us in the long run or bring us happiness and fulfillment.
